Henry Kolthoff
Henry Kolthoff was born in the Netherlands on September 29, 1878. On November 16, 1902 he was united in marriage to Griete Hemmen. While still in the Netherlands their first son, Kobus was born. In 1903 they came to America and settled near Cleves, Iowa. Later on they moved to a farm near Ackley. In 1906 they became members of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church. For a period of time Henry was the custodian of the church. In 1942 they retired and bought a home in Ackley. His wife passed away in 1945. Eleven years ago he sold his home and went to live with his daughter and family. After a short illness, Henry died on July 4, 1968 at Ellsworth Memorial Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Preceding him in death were two children in infancy, his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Mourning his passing are one son, Kobus of Ackley, three daughters, (Henrietta) Mrs. Henry V. Janssen of Ackley; (Grace) Mrs. Ubbie Harken of Geneva, and (Jeanette) Mrs. Delbert Wood of Ackley; three brothers, Lorrence of Fergus Falls, Minn.; Harm of Bellflower, Calif.; and Hilko of Steamboat Rock. Also 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
