Mrs. Ralph Freese
Resident of North Grundy Co. and Ackley Many Years
Mrs. Tena Freese was born July 21, 1859 in Ogle County, Illinois. She came to Iowa with her parents when she was about five years old. In January 1881 she was united in marriage with Ralph Freese. She became a member of the East Friesland Presbyterian church in 1901. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid of the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church of Ackley, Iowa. Her husband was called from her side through death on January 28th, 1909. For the past twelve years she made her home with her son John and family, until a week before her departure she was taken to her daughter's home, Mrs. Geike Lauterbach at Ackley. She was in good health until six years ago when she suffered a stroke of paralysis. Her departure came Friday forenoon, March 29th, 1946 at about 9:45. She attained the age of 86 years, 8 months, and 8 days.
She is survived by her eight children: Christ Freese of Ackley; Mrs. Johanna Frances, of Bondurant, Ia.; Riebke Freese, of Holland, Ia.; Mrs. Nancy Meints, of Ackley; Mrs. Fannie Lauterbach, of Ackley; Mrs. Anna Steinberg, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. Louie Freese, of Shell Rock, Ia.; John Freese, Holland, Ia.; thirty-nine grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John VanLoh, of Wellsburg, Ia.; one brother, Martin Riebkes, Ackley. Two daughters, Mrs. Jenna Rotgers and Mrs. Helen Wessels preceded her in death. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Services were held Monday, April 1st, at 1 p.m., at the home of John Freese and later at the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church, Rev. C. F. Siemsen officiating.
Interment was made in the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church cemetery.
