Hulda Harms
Hulda Harms, formerly of Ackley and Eldora, passed away at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington on January 12, 1993. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 16, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington with Rev. Barbara Patton officiating. Eunice Stockdale was organist. Ushers were Wally Brouwer and Ben Hook. Honorary casketbearers were John Enslin and Harvey Muller. Casketbearers were Calvin Abbas, Harlan Abbas, Ken Abbas, Matt Abbas, Troy Abbas and William Abbas. Interment was in East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery of rural Ackley. Arrangements were made by Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home.
Hulda Harms was born May 10, 1898 at Cleves, the daughter of Dirk and Mattie Arends Noordman. She attended the Cleves country schools. On April 22, 1920 she was married to John Harms at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church parsonage. She helped her husband on the farm.
She was a former member of the Eldora Methodist Church of which she belonged to various church circles. While in Eldora she baked for people. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aplington.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a daughter, Vivian May Harms at birth; two brothers, Arend Noordman and Herman Noordman, and five sisters, Elsie Boheman, Vina Snittjer, Rose Snittjer, Lydia Meints and Mattie Fisher.
