Mathilda Harms
Mathilda Harms of Steamboat Rock passed away December 24 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 26 at the Faith Presbyterian Church of rural Ackley. Rev. Tim Diehl officiated. Organist was Darlene Heetland and vocalist was Gretchen VanHove. Ushers were Jim Willems and Dennis Niehaus. Serving as pallbearers were Virgil Harms, Raymond Daniels, Leslie VanWey, Richard Kirschner, Ralph Harms and Harold Fistler. Interment was in East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mathilda Harms, 78, was born October 14, 1911 in Cleves, the daughter of Wiard and Mattie Isbrand Aikes. She received her education at Clay #1 school of rural Cleves. She was married to Obbie Harms December 9, 1931. Mrs. Harms was a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Harold) Jaspers of Steamboat Rock; a grandson, Arlan Jaspers of Sheldon; and a brother, Ralph Aikes of the Presbyterian Home in Ackley. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1976; her parents; two brothers, Wiard and Henry; and two sisters, Jankan Jutting and Gertrude Harms.
