Marlys LeAnn Haats, age 80, of West Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Falls and Clive, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Martin M. and Pearl (Johnson) Ross on October 13, 1937, on a farm in Grundy County, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Wellsburg High School, Wellsburg, Iowa.

On December 2, 1955, Marlys was united in marriage with Calvin John Haats at the First Reformed Church in Aplington, Iowa. They made their home in the Wellsburg area. In 1966 they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa and lived there until 1979, when they moved to Clive, Iowa. Through the years Marlys worked in the Human Resource Department at Rath Packing in Waterloo, Iowa, Banks of Iowa and Electronic Engineering in Des Moines, Iowa. Marlys was a member of the Meredith Drive Reformed Church, Des Moines.

Marlys died Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, Iowa, from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Haats on September 28, 1999, her parents and one brother, LuVerne Ross.

Marlys is survived by one son, Thomas (special friend, Kim Johnston) Haats of Hemet, California; and one daughter, Karla Haats of Clive, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, both Aplington, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington.
