Alvena Ann Veurink, age 81, of Grant, MI went to be with her Lord on Tues, April 5, at her daughter's home. She was a kind, compassionate, and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her welcoming smile, ready laugh, and warmth will be dearly missed.

Alvena was born and raised on a farm in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, and met her husband, Robert (Bob) Veurink while attending the Reformed Bible Institute in Grand Rapids, MI. Alvena and Bob married in 1959 in Grant, MI and resided there ever since. Bob was a vegetable grower and package plant owner, and Alvena helped manage the carrot packaging plant for many years. They had four children, and Alvena returned to her nursing career after her children were grown, practicing in-home health and as an LPN at Rest Haven Home in Grand Rapids.

Alvena loved her church, the Grant Christian Reformed Church, and her church family which provided increasing community and support for her over the years.

Alvena was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and brothers Gordon and Richard Geerdes.

She is survived by her children Cheryl Boose, John (Janet) Veurink, Shirlene VanderWest, and Norma Veurink; grandchildren Matt (Nichole), Jason (Kenna), Rachel, Eric, Kara, Josh, Chad, David, and Kristina, five great-grandsons, special nieces Gail, Jean, Cindy, and Joey, special nephew Jim, as well as numerous other nephews and nieces, brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, friends, neighbors, and two aunts.

Visitation will be at the Grant Christian Reformed Church on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 5-8 PM. The funeral will be held at the church on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior.
