Lorine Boekhoff, Former Cage Great, Is Dead

Funeral services for Mrs. Lorine Edna Boekhoff were held Monday afternoon, January 25, 1982 at 2 p.m. in the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Chapel in Harlingen, Texas with the Rev. Joe Jaime officiating. Mrs. Boekhoff passed away on January 21, 1982 at 7 p.m. at the Valley Baptist in Harlingen after suffering a stroke on Tuesday, January 12, 1982. She reached the age of 51 years. Burial was in the Restlawn Memorial Park in Harlingen.

Lorine Edna Boekhoff, better known to us as Lorraine, was a former resident of Wellsburg, Iowa. She was born on July 5, 1930 the daughter of John and Mary Vanderwerf Boekhoff, being raised on a rural area farm in Colfax township southwest of Wellsburg until the family moved to Wellsburg. There she attended the Wellsburg Community School from which she graduated with the class of 1949. She was well remembered by many as a star forward of the Iowa Basketball Champions in 1949.

She was united in marriage to Albert H. Boekhoff on July 13, 1956 in Oberstern, Germany where Mr. Boekhoff was stationed in the Armed Services at that time. After his retirement from military service they returned to Wellsburg to make their home for several years, then moving to Texas in August of 1979.

Survivors include her husband Albert H. Boekhoff of Harlingen, Texas, three daughters Patti of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Penny of Kingsville, Texas and Diane of Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas and her mother, Mrs. Mary Boekhoff of Wellsburg, Iowa. Plus other survivors including six brothers and 10 sisters. She was preceded in death by her father, three brothers, Lawrence in service, Albert of Minnesota and John of Wellsburg.

Other survivors include Ben Boekhoff of Aplington; Mrs. Leonard (Fannie) Johnson of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Mrs. George (Anna) Tjabering of Parkersburg; Dick Boekhoff of St. Cloud, Minn.; Mrs. Sam (Jennie) VanHeiden of Wellsburg; Sam Boekhoff of Wellsburg; Mrs. Henry (Ella) Riebkes of Wellsburg; Mrs. Fred (Bertha) Kannegieter of Waterloo; Ernest Boekhoff of Aplington; Mrs. John (Carrie) Wehrman of Iowa Falls; George Boekhoff of Wellsburg; Mrs. Delbert (Grace) Hippen of Wellsburg; Mrs. Leland (Evelyn) Lentz of Williams; Mrs. Dale (Esther) Smith of Conrad; Mrs. Carroll (Marlys) Clark of Keokuk; and Arnold Boekhoff of Wellsburg.
