Military Rites Honor Roland Slifer

Rolland "Rollie" R. Slifer, Warba, Minnesota, passed away Monday, March 25, 1996, at the Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 62 years.

A Fellowship Service was held Monday, April 1, 1996, at the Warba American Legion Post with full military rites.

Rollie was born in Colfax Township, Iowa, the son of Asa and Dena (Kruse) Slifer. He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He lived in Warba for the last forty years. He managed the Warba Liquor, owned and operated Rollie's Meats in Cohasset and worked for Nelson Roofing and Casper Construction Company, both in Grand Rapids. From 1974 until 1982, he was a trapper and a hunting and fishing guide in Canada. For the last 14 years, he worked for Reed Construction Company in Bovey.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1720 of Grand Rapids, a member of Itasca County 40 et 8, Warba American Legion Post 432, and Grand Rapids Moose Club.

Survivors include a sister, Elda Vey Riekena and husband Willard of Grundy Center, Iowa; and Ivan Slifer and wife, Frances, of Wellsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

The Libbey Funeral Home in Grand Rapids was in charge of the professional arrangements.
