PARKERSBURG--Deidra Florence Hippen, 46, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at the Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn., of a rare lung disease. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 12, at Hope Reformed Church, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Neal Ooms officiating. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington. Memorials may be directed to the family or to an education fund for her girls.
Deidra was born Oct. 3, 1958, in Des Moines, the daughter of Alton and Floreine King Ellingson. She graduated from Wellsburg High School and attended Ellsworth College for two years. Deidra was united in marriage with Galen Hippen on March 28, 1981, at the Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg. The couple lived in Aplington and Deidra worked with Galen in their Hippen Appliance business. She worked for Bergan Paulson Accounting Firm in Waterloo for a few years, for the postal service in several towns, for Oster Communications for one year and then for Peterson Genetics for six years.
Deidra was a member of Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg. She served as secretary/treasurer for the Sunday school and was a member of the BELL Couples Group. She also helped at church as a youth group leader, Puppet Ministry and sang in the church choir. She was active in the Cursillo Community. Deidra liked to scrapbook and do cross-stitching. She enjoyed collecting gingerbread items and sharing Taco Tuesday with her friends. She was an avid bargain shopper. Deidra especially loved to attend and take part in any of her daughters’ activities, such as their soccer, basketball, softball and volleyball games and track meets, and in their plays, music and speech events.
Deidra is survived by her husband of nearly 24 years, Galen Hippen of Parkersburg; two daughters, Koby and Haley Hippen at home; two brothers, Ron and wife Cindy Ellingson of Wellsburg and Rick and wife Gina Ellingson of Waterloo; one sister, Denise and husband Bill Wieland of Carroll; mother-in-law JoAnn Hippen of Aplington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; one brother, Keith Ellingson; one sister-in-law, Chris Ellingson; and one sister in infancy.
Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements.
