Vinson McLean Luwe

Wheatland--Memorial services for Vinson McLean Luwe, 83, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wheatland by Pastor Julius Manteufel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo.

He died Aug. 16, 2003, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Born Oct. 15, 1919, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the son of Henry and Mabel (Ashing) Luwe, he was raised and educated in Wellsburg, graduating from high school in 1937.

In 1940, he married Alyce Beving.

They settled at Chanute Field in Rantoul, Ill., where he was stationed in the Air Force. He served in England During World War II and in Guam and Korea during the Korean War. After the war they settled in Littleton, Colo. where he attended Colorado University.

He was employed as a design engineer on the Titan II project and environmental engineer at Sterling Drug, where he designed multi-hearth furnaces. He retired in Colorado but moved to Wheatland in 1992.

He enjoyed playing golf and played many rounds at the Wheatland Golf Club. He was an avid model railroader and a member of the National Model Railroader's Association. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3558 in Wheatland and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alyce Luwe of Wheatland; four children Shelby Luwe of Burnsville, Minn., Steven Luwe of Bellevue, Wash., Kathryn Mills of Aurora, Colo., and Gail Vinett of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister Kathryn Colville of Mason City, Iowa; a brother, Leland Luwe of Des Moines, Iowa; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 216, Wheatland, 82201-0216.

Gorman Funeral Home-Platte Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of arrangements.
