Janice (Jan) Kae Everts Duffy

Janice (Jan) Kae Everts Duffy joined her heavenly Father on April 18, 2016, after a brief but courageous battle with illness. She was surrounded by her loving husband, two brothers and two sisters-in-law. She was the daughter of William and Carrie Bohlen Everts, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa.

Jan was united in marriage to Lawrence (Larry) Duffy on Nov. 25, 1972 at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, in Holland, Iowa. They resided in Ames, Iowa for nine years until moving to Prescott in March of 1981.

Jan graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1969. She attended Iowa State University for two years, where she and Larry met. After working at retail sales and in insurance for quite a number of years, Jan pursued her education and received her BS Degree in Human Services Counseling from Old Dominion University in May 2006. She was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Immediately after finishing her education, Jan went to work at West Yavapai Guidance Clinic as a service coordinator, where she worked with seriously mentally ill patients, whom she cared for deeply.

Jan's hobbies included reading (mystery), writing poetry and mysteries. She had one published poem and was working on a mystery/romance novel at the time of her passing.

Jan is survived by her husband of 43 plus years, Lawrence (Larry) Duffy; two brothers, James (Brenda) Everts of Parkersburg, Iowa and Jeff (Janet) Everts of Waterloo, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Daisy and Mitzi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, fraternal grandparents, George and Jennie Everts and maternal grandparents, Henry and Hannah Bohlen.

A Celebration of Life for Jan will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at their home and another will take place in Iowa in June.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the nursing program at Yavapaie Community College, Prescott.

Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
