Sioux Center, Iowa--Nettie Brower, 92, of Sioux Center died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Herm Van Niejenhuis officiating. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Grant Center Township Cemetery, rural Hampton, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Nettie was born Dec. 1, 1909, in Grundy County, Iowa, to Peter and Grace Ruter. She attended Pine Creek Elementary School and graduated from Wellsburg (Iowa) Public High School in 1928.
She married Henry F. Brower on Nov. 30, 1938, at First Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. The couple began farming near Hampton and later moved to Wellsburg, where they lived for nine years. In 1957, they moved to their farm near Hampton, where they lived until 1992. They retired and moved to Sioux Center. They wintered in Mission, Texas, for more than 20 years.
She served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the ladies aid organization. She enjoyed playing games, flowers and birds.
Survivors include her husband, Henry; a son and his wife, Joel and Jean of Byron Center, Mich.; a daughter and her husband, Jerelyn and Dave Schelhaas of Sioux Center; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Ruter; and two brothers, Herman and James Ruter.
