O. M. Kauffman Dies In Hospital

Owen M. Kauffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Kauffman, was born on Oct. 20, 1870, at Maquoketa, Iowa. The family moved to a farm near Whitten, when he was six months old, where he lived until 1899 when he moved to a farm near Campell, Minn.

On Sept. 26, 1900, he was united in marriage with Anna Gohner of Whitten and to this union was born a son, Boyd, who died at the age of two.

When a young man he united with the Methodist church. While residing in Wilken County, Minn., he served for thirty years as the clerk of Bradford township. The Kauffmans made their home in Minnesota from 1899 until the fall of 1947 when they moved to Whitten, where they lived until the time of his passing. On Sept. 26, 1950 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

He had been in failing health for several years and entered the Deaconess hospital on Nov. 24, and passed away Dec. 5, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 14 days.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and one brother, Wayne. He is survived by his widow and two brothers, Dr. I. D. Kauffman of Long Beach, Calif., and Ralph of Whitten and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Olmstead and Mrs. Edna Meyers, both of Whitten.

Mr. Kauffman was a kind and loving husband, a good neighbor and always interested in the welfare of the community and was highly respected by his friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Christian church in Whitten, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Schaffer. Music was furnished by Gerald Stambrough with Mrs. Marjorie Bavender at the piano. Pall bearers were all nephews: Russell Meyers, Duane Boyle, James Moore, Stanley Stover, Eldon Gohner and Lyle Olmstead. Burial took place in the Benson cemetery. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Harry Eggleston, Mrs. Howard Hauser, Mrs. Walter Hauser and Mrs. Blanche Schryver.

Those attending the services from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Loeks of Cambell, Minn., Mrs. Ed Burhans of Breckenridge, Minn.; Mrs. Orville Peterson and Orvis Bruhans of Doren, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Whannell of Gladbrook, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Meyers. Many others attended from Eldora, Union, Conrad and Marshalltown.
