Samuel Meyers Dies In Hospital

Samuel Meyers, who resided in Grundy county all of his life, died early Sunday morning in a Marshalltown hospital. He was 73 years old.

Mr. Meyers was born on a farm in southwest Grundy and grew up there. During his younger days he was a member of the one time famous Whitten baseball team. He was an all around athlete and participated actively in athletic events in Grundy and adjoining counties for several years.

He was born May 18, 1879. He was a member of a family of eleven children. He was a son of Samuel and Susanna Meyers among the early residents of southwest Grundy. He resided on the same farm in Felix township for 67 years.

On September 24, 1938, he was married to Lucille Callaway.

Surviving are the wife and one sister, Mrs. Amanda Callaway, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edna Meyers from Whitten.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church at Whitten. Burial was in the Benson cemetery.
