Adolph Hippen Dies in Waverly Hospital
Adolph Hippen, who spent most of his life in Grundy county, died at Mercy hospital in Waverly last Thursday from cancer. He was 61 years old.
Funeral services were held at the Block Funeral Home in Waterloo at 12:30 Monday, and at 2 o'clock in the Gospel Hall at Stout, with Oliver Smith, minister of the Gospel Hall, officiating. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran church cemetery two miles north of Fern.
Adolph Hippen was born January 5, 1892, on a farm near Fern. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Hippen. He grew up on a Grundy county farm. January 1, 1917, he and Lena Stickfort were married at Holland, Iowa. They continued to make their home in Grundy county until four years ago, when they moved to Waterloo. They resided in Grundy Center several years.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Adolph A., Casebeer Heights; Raymond, Evansdale, and Oliver of Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. John Lambert, Evansdale; Mrs. Arthur Brown, Omaha; and Gertrude Vaughn, Waterloo; three sisters, Miss Jennie Hippen, Fern; Mrs. John Aswegan, Reinbeck, and Mrs. Ernest Kalkwarf, Ackley; four brothers, Frank, of St. James, Minn.; Harm, Vicksburg, Mich.; Jerry, Hudson, and Martin, Fern, and eight grandchildren.
Three sons preceded him in death.
