Abigail VanHeiden, 85, of Ackley, passed away on Monday April 9, 2018 at Grand JiVante in Ackley. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in St. Peter’s Country Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before the service. The Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley is assisting the family.

Abigail Louise VanHeiden was born on December 23, 1932 in Ackley, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Bernice (Schultz) VanHeiden. She graduated from the Ackley Schools and attended Iowa State Teachers College. Abigail worked at the Ackley World Journal for 39 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was the church treasurer. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and an avid bridge player.

Abigail is survived by her two sisters, Mary Nelson of Lake City and Betty Rinderknecht of Cedar Rapids, her sister-in-law Judy (John) Schafer of Ackley and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willard and Skip VanHeiden and two sisters, Agnes and Janice and also her sister and brother in infancy Janet and Sidney.
