George Willems, 68 years of age, who had lived at Cleves and in that vicinity through many years, was found dead in his bed early Monday morning. He had been out and around in apparent usual health Sunday afternoon. He lived in his own place next to the Janssen and Achtermann general store. When not around at his accustomed hour, he was called. When there was no response to the call, an investigation was made. Willems had died in his sleep; his body was still warm, so it is thought he died only a short time previously.

The deceased came to the neighborhood from Germany, where he was born. He had served as janitor at the East Friesland German Presbyterian church. One sister lives at Aplington, two brothers, Jerry at Wellsburg, and Harm at Cedar Falls. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Siemsen.
