Dr. F. S. Beckman Dies At Hospital

Dr. F. S. Beckman, who had practiced dentistry in Grundy Center for 46 years, died quite suddenly at the Grundy hospital early Monday morning. He had been in failing health the past two years but had not been confined to his bed. His condition became suddenly more serious Sunday night and he was taken to the hospital where the end came very shortly. He was 72 years old on the 13th of last January.

Dr. Beckman's parents were among the early residents of Grundy Center and Grundy county and for many years they were one of the county's outstanding families. There were four sons and one daughter in this family and "Fritz", Dr. Beckman, was the youngest. He is also the last of the family summoned by death.

Fritz Beckman graduated from the Grundy Center high school. He completed the course in dental college at the State University of Iowa and shortly thereafter entered the dental office of Dr. W. R. Lynn with whom he remained associated a few years after which he established an office of his own. He retired from his profession in 1948. Retirement was due to failing health.

Dr. Beckman and Miss Tillie Freese were married October 14, 1908. The wife died four years ago. They had one daughter, VerDene, now Mrs. Ernest Becker, who survives.

Members of his family who preceded him in death were his parents; three brothers, Otto Herbert and Dr. Hessel. One sister, Mrs. Augusta Butler, died a short time ago. The father died when the youngest son Fritz, was 1/12 years old.

Dr. Beckman was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the First Presbyterian church in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the Ferree-Coffman Funeral Chapel Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Beckman Mausoleum in the Grundy Center cemetery where other members of his family preceded him.
