Thelma Rae Long, 98, of Conrad, IA, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Conrad United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services, at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes.

Thelma Rae was born February 12, 1919, to George and Minnie (Sharp) Lister, in rural Grundy County. She attended rural country schools and graduated from Conrad High School. Thelma Rae received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College, in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught country school near Lincoln, IA, for three years. Thelma Rae was united in marriage to Harley Long on May 25, 1941, in Conrad. She was a homemaker.

Thelma Rae was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was involved in the women's society. She was also a member of Eastern Star and the Vienna Women’s Club. Thelma Rae loved gardening and her flowers, especially gladiolas.

Thelma Rae will be missed by a daughter, Marlene (James) Kunch of Marshalltown, a son, Robert Leon Long of Conrad, and a granddaughter, Beverly (Mike Kaider) Andrews of Gilman, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, and a brother, Paul Lister.
