Carol E. Sells, 74, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care, while under the care of Unity Point Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Burial will follow the funeral service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Carol was born on September 18, 1942 in State Center, Iowa, the daughter of Adelbert and Doris Fricke. She was raised in State Center and graduated from State Center High School in the Class of 1960. She then earned a basketball scholarship and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. Two years later she married William E. Beem, Jr. They welcomed two children into their family. They later divorced. She was then united in marriage to her husband Paul L. Sells on October 16, 1982.

Carol was employed by Fisher Electronics in Marshalltown, Iowa as an assembler from 1976 until 1986. Carol and Paul then moved to California where they worked for General Dynamics. They returned to Grundy Center, Iowa in 1993 and she worked for Lennox Industries until her retirement in 2006.

Carol enjoyed gardening, preserving and cooking. She loved watching basketball and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She also loved watching her grandchildren bowl. Her true joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her husband Paul; son Gregory Beem; daughter Cathy (Ken) Vergauwen Jr.; grandchildren Crysa, Tia and Jenna Vergauwen; step-daughter Pamela Sullivan; step-grandson Erik Sells; step-great-granddaughter Kyra Sells; brother Carl Fricke; sisters Marilyn Paulsen and Barbara Blake. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Virginia Hahn; brother-in-law Don Blake; sisters-in-law Linda Gabbard and Shirley Sells; and step-son David Sells.
