Obituary of Mrs. Klaas Brass

Mrs. Klaas Brass, nee Eloesser, was born May 19, 1840 in Bunde, East Friesland, Germany. She died on February 19, 1925, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dick Peters at Rice Lake, Wisconsin, at the age of 84 years and 9 months. With her parents she immigrated in 1870 to the United States of America and lived in the neighborhood of Forreston, Ill. In 1875 she was united in marriage to Mr. Klaas Brass. To this union were born three children.

Four years later the family moved to Bremer county, Iowa, and lived in the vicinity of Waverly, and in 1881 they moved to Ackley and took possession of the farm now occupied by their son, Will.

About 17 years ago she and her husband moved to town to enjoy in the remaining days the fruits of their labor. But short were the days.

The following year, 1909, her husband was taken from her side, and from that time she lived alone, except for the last few winters, which she spent at the home of one of her daughters.

She was a member of the Westfriesland Presbyterian church, southeast of Ackley.

There remain to mourn her departure her children, Will of Ackley, Mrs. Dick Peters of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Harm Hook of Wellsburg, besides eight grandchildren, a few other relatives and many friends. The funeral services were held Monday at the Westfriesland Presbyterian church, the pastor assisted by Rev. Seibold, officiating.

Her body was laid to rest beside her husband's in the cemetery adjoining the church.
