John Long died Wednesday night June 8, 1898, aged 81 years, 1 month, 28 days. He was born in Luyerne county, Pennsylvania, and moved to Iowa in 1868. They located on a farm southeast of Whitten, where he has since resided, except five years that he spent in Whitten. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. McCrea of Liscomb. A large procession followed the remains to the Vinton cemetery, where they were interred.
