George North, Sr., Pioneer, Is Dead

Cedar Falls, Ia., April 22--(Special)--Yesterday noon occurred the death of George North, Sr., aged 87 years, at the home of his grandson, Clarence North, six miles west of Cedar Falls. The deceased was up and about the house yesterday morning, going out upon the lawn, but succumbed quickly because his strength was depleted by age and consequent infirmities. He came to Iowa 42 years ago and struggled with all the hardships of pioneer life in the west. Later he moved his family to Waterloo, where they lived until the death of his wife about two years ago, since which time he had been a welcome inmate of the homes of his children. His surviving sons are Joseph of Cedar Falls, Fred and George, well known farmers residing southwest of this city, and William of Waterloo, and one daughter, Kate. One son, John, died a few years ago.

Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday at the home of the grandson, Clarence North, where he died, and the officiating clergyman will be Rev. Mr. Voss of Fern, Ia., pastor of the German Lutheran church, assisted by Rev. C. A. Fritz of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church of this city. Burial will be made in Fairview cemetery.
