Dennis Jay Harken, 36, of 8400 Plum Drive, Urbandale, died of a heart ailment Sunday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Southtown Funeral Home. Burial will be at West Friesland Cemetery in Ackley.

Mr. Harken was born in Waterloo and moved to the Des Moines area in 1978. He was a collector with CSC Credit Service and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ackley.

Surviving are his wife, Darla; a son, Brandon, and a stepdaughter, Amy Roberts, both of Urbandale; his parents, Delbert and Delores Harken of Ackley; and a brother, Delton of West Des Moines.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Additional visitation and services will be at Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home in Ackley at a later date.

Dennis Harken, Urbandale, was born January 10, 1958, in Waterloo, to Delbert Carl and Dolores Irene Halloran Harken.

He was a 1976 graduate of Ackley-Geneva High School and 1978 graduate of Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge. He married Darla Roberts in Des Moines and was a collector for C.S.C. Credit Service. He formerly resided in Ackley and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ackley, and Ducks Unlimited.

He died Sunday, December 11, 1994, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines. He was 36.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 16, at First Presbyterian Church, Ackley, with the Reverend R. Michael McDowell and Reverend Tim Wilkey officiating. Elaine Willms was organist with Shauna Schurman as soloist.

Casketbearers were Kevin Abbas, Robert Arends, Tim Dohlman, Randy Fistler, Ric Kennedy and Michael Kramer. Burial was in West Friesland Cemetery, Ackley.

Survivors include his wife, Urbandale; a son, Brandon, Urbandale; a step-daughter, Amy Roberts, Urbandale; his father and mother, Ackley; and a brother, Delton Harken, West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jolene Harken.

Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home, Ackley, was in charge of the arrangements.
