E. S. Doughty, 85, Died at Hospital

E. S. Doughty, 85, passed away at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Friday evening at 8 o'clock. Death was caused from uremic poisoning. He had been in failing health for 11 years and had been bedfast most of the time in recent years.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Ferree Funeral Home with Rev. Gerben VanPutten officiating. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

E. Sylvie Doughty was born December 23, 1871, at Mt. Carroll, Ill., the son of John and Mary Doughty. Following the death of his mother when he was 12 years old, he made his home with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Albright. He graduated from the Mt. Carroll high school, and came to Iowa when he was 17 years old. He settled in Melrose township, Grundy county.

E. S. Doughty and Daisy Filer were married December 14, 1909, at her home at Mercersburg, Pa. They moved on an acreage 1/2 mile east of Grundy Center where they lived until they moved into Grundy Center in 1924. During the years that he lived east of town, Mr. Doughty operated a milk route to Grundy Center patrons.

Mr. Doughty's hobby was oil painting and he has many paintings in his home which were made by him.

He is survived by his wife and a son Linus and two grandsons, of Eldora, by a previous marriage. His parents preceded him in death.

Attending the funeral from out of the county were: Mrs. Doughty's sister-in-law, Mrs. Howard Filer, and son Clarence of Pearl City, Ill.; Mrs. Edna Howard, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Linus Doughty and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Doughty of Eldora.
