--------------------------------------------------

Margaret Boyer Miller was born near Hagerstown, Md., July 23, 1834. When but a small girl her parents moved to Mt. Carroll, Ill. On July 6, 1854, she was married to Jacob Miller, who was two years her senior. In 1869 they moved with their little family to Melrose township, Grundy county, and have resided there ever since.

To this union were born seven children. Three daughters preceded both parents in death. Seven years ago, February 20, Jacob Miller died, aged almost 78 years. Mrs. Miller was a sufferer for seven years to such an extent that she did not go anywhere. Since last fall she has been quite ill and suffered severely at times, on account of having developed an abdominal tumor.

Last Monday morning, February 19, at 7:30 she fell asleep and slept on without moving hand or foot until Wednesday morning following at 5:30, when the fight for existence ceased calmly, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 28 days.

Three sons, one daughter, one foster daughter, twenty grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three aged sisters, besides many other relatives and friends, survive. The three sisters live at Mt. Carroll, Ill., but were too feeble to attend the funeral.

For many years she has been a Christian and endured faithfully to the end. Her lot was one of suffering, but her patience and optimism was a kindly rebuke to the strong and hearty.

Since the husband's death the home was maintained by her son, Anson H. Miss Julia Gilbert served in the housework and nursing almost five years.

The funeral services were conducted February 22 at 1:30 in the Ivester church, and burial took place in the cemetery two miles north.

The music for the services was in charge of the chorister, D. D. Sheller. The pallbearers were five grandsons and the sixth a grandson by marriage.

The services were conducted by the pastor of the Ivester church.

The stream is calmest when it nears the tide,
The flowers are sweetest at eventide;
And birds most musical at close of day,
And saints divinest when they pass away.
