Rev. Cakerice Passes Away

The Ivester community was saddened Tuesday when it was announced that Rev. Cakerice, for many years pastor of the Ivester church, had passed away early that morning.

Rev. Cakerice had been making his home with a son of late years and only a week ago was helping in the field work on the son's farm near Ivester when he was suddenly stricken with paralysis and a second stroke the first of this week proved fatal.

Rev. Cakerice was a man universally loved by all his acquaintances and his sudden removal from the activities of life will be keenly felt in the neighborhood where he has resided for many years.

Obituary-- J. H. Cakerice

John Henry Cakerice was born near Hagerstown, Md., Jan. 2, 1855 and was called to his heavenly home June 6, 1922, aged 67 years, 5 months and 4 days.

When a young man he came west with his parents and spent most of his life in Illinois and Iowa, with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas. During this time he was elder of the Brethren church at Buckeye and also at Lawrence.

In 1876 he made his covenant with his Lord and was baptised. The next year, May 24, he was married to Eliza A. Slifer, who survives him. To this union six children were born, two of whom died in infancy.

He was called to the ministry of the word in 1886 and magnified his office. The elders of the district of Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota recognized his fitness for the office of eldership and with two other brethren, was ordained to the full ministry or eldership.

The oldest daughter, Mary Pierce, passed on three years ago, and since that time the children of the family have found a home with him and his wife.

The remaining children, all living near Eldora, Ia., are: Harry W., Mrs. Alice Vinton, and Irvin L. There are 14 grandchildren. His aged mother, to whom he was greatly devoted, survives, also one sister and two brothers. These, with a host of friends, are left to mourn the loss of one whom to know was to love.
