Barbara Joan Thuesen, age 80, of Wellsburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Charles and Charlotte E. (Ackerly) Draper on August 12, 1933, Leon, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from Leon Community High School in 1951.

On June 23, 1952, Barbara Draper was united in marriage with Paul Thuesen in Leon, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Cedar Falls for one year. They then moved to a farm near Dike, Iowa. In 1980, Paul and Barbara moved to Missouri, where they lived for a few years. After leaving Missouri, Paul and Barbara lived in several communities in north central Iowa and eventually settled in Wellsburg where they lived for nine years. Barbara was actively involved with the ARC of the United States. The couple was foster parents for many years.

Barbara was a member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, Iowa. She had a great passion for family genealogy and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States for her research and visiting friends and family. Through her experiences she published a book “The Drapers’ A Pioneer Family.” Her pride and joy was her family and she especially loved time spent with them.

Barbara died on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at her home in Wellsburg, Iowa, of natural causes. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Thuesen on May 30, 2014; a granddaughter, Diana Thuesen; her parents; three sisters, Doris Shepherd, Louise O’Neall and Ruby Honn; and six brothers, Vere Draper, Keith Draper, Kenneth Draper, Basil Draper, Jim Draper and Gaylen Draper.

Barbara is survived by three sons, Randall (Conie) Thuesen of Sikeston, Missouri, Gary (Donna) Thuesen of Grundy Center, and David (Melodee) Thuesen of Waverly, Iowa; two daughters, Debra (Kenneth) Eiten of Loveland, Colorado, and Melissa (Tim) England of Wellsburg; seven grandchildren, Kyle Thuesen, James (Perri Corvino) Eiten, William Eiten, Erica (Randy) Norris, April Thuesen, Randee Thuesen and Jordyn England; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Corvino Eiten; two sisters, Shirley Collins of Las Vegas, NV, and Beverly Draper of Princeton, MO; three sisters-in-law, Rosalie Draper, Leila Draper and Dorothy Draper; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Colfax Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, rural Holland, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
