Paul Erick Thuesen, age 82, of Wellsburg, Iowa, was born the son of Harry E. and Mabel J. (Syndergaard) Thuesen on July 25, 1931, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He graduated from Dike High School. After high school, Paul attended college. He also served in the United States Naval Reserve.

On June 23, 1952, Paul was united in marriage with Barbara Joan Draper in Leon, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Cedar Falls for one year. They then moved to a farm near Dike, Iowa. In 1980, Paul and Barbara moved to Missouri, where they lived for a few years. After leaving Missouri, Paul and Barbara lived in several communities in north central Iowa and eventually settled in Wellsburg where they lived for nine years. Paul worked for John Deere Product Engineering Center in Cedar Falls and he also farmed. Paul retired in 1994.

Paul was a member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, Iowa where he served as an elder, a long time member of the care team and men’s prayer group. Paul was a member of the Danish Brotherhood. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling and was a talented handyman. Paul’s greatest joy was time spent with his family.

Paul died on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, of natural causes. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara; three sons, Randall (Conie) Thuesen of Sikeston, Missouri, Gary (Donna) Thuesen of Grundy Center, and David (Melodee) Thuesen of Waverly, Iowa; two daughters, Debra (Kenneth) Eiten of Loveland, Colorado, and Melissa (Tim) England of Wellsburg; eight grandchildren, Kyle Thuesen, James (Perri Corvino) Eiten, William Eiten, Erica (Randy) Norris, April Thuesen, Randee Thuesen and Jordyn England; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Corvino Eiten; and one brother, Harlan (Joan) Thuesen of Dike.

Celebration of Life Luncheon will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, rural Holland, Iowa.
