Wava Bernice Meester, age 96, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Walter and Lola (Reid) Minor on April 9, 1919, rural Grundy County, Grundy Center, Iowa. She received her education from the Grundy Center High School graduating in 1936. Wava continued her education and attended AIB in Des Moines, Iowa. Following graduation she went to Wright Patterson Airfield in Ohio to work, until she came home due to her father’s health. She then worked at the Grundy Hemp Plant and the Grundy Canning Factory until marriage.

On December 11, 1946, Wava was united in marriage with Harold J. Meester in Grundy Center. The couple lived and farmed on the Meester family farm until retirement. They moved into Aplington in 1982.

Wava was a member of Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed quilting with the ladies. She was a long time member of the Rebekah Lodge and where she had held all of the offices and received the Sovereign Grand Lodge Award of Chivalry. Wava was an active gardener during the summer and bowled on the senior citizen league in Iowa Falls during the winter. She was an active member of the Cedar Falls Emergency Club. Wava and Harold were well known with their faith healing they did together.

Throughout the last 25 years Wava always had and very much enjoyed a companion dog. She enjoyed playing Pepper, going and teaching square dancing and receiving an Angel Pin. She also liked collecting antique salt dips.

Wava died Friday, January 29, 2016, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Meester in 1985; her parents; and one sister, Velma (Charles Sidney) Murray.

Wava is survived by one son, Jay (Pat) Meester of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; one daughter, PamJo Meester of Aplington; three grandchildren, Holly (Jeremiah) Howell, Lacey (Cody Reed) Meester and Kelsey (Scott) Kinyon; two great-grandchildren, Brodie Ann and and Collin Jay Howell.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb 6, 2016, at the Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Aplington with burial at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Aplington and 1 hour prior to services.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
