Marvin Lee Steck, age 86, of Carol Stream, Illinois, was born the son of Annette Buseman Steck on January 16, 1930 in Grundy County. When Marvin was nine years old, his mother and step-father, Heiko Steck, relocated to Chicago to secure better jobs. Marvin stayed behind and was raised by his grandparents, Jacob and Martha Buseman in Grundy Center. Marvin graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1948. After graduation, he attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois for three years, majoring in Art with a minor in Business Administration.

Marvin then moved to Los Angeles where he worked for a commercial printer for a year prior to enrolling at the Art Center College for Design. While going to school, Marvin also worked as a technical illustrator for Douglas Aircraft for three years. In 1957, he received a B.A. in Industrial Design and a minor in Packaging Graphics. After graduation, Marvin remained in Los Angeles for two more years working for an independent design firm with the Gold Oil Account.

In 1959, Marvin moved to the Detroit area where he was employed by Harley Earl Associates for the next 3 1/2 years as a package designer. During his time there, he created package graphics for many nationally known brands. The company opened a branch in Chicago and Marvin was transferred to that facility.

In 1963, Marvin had the opportunity work as a designer with the Design and Market Research Laboratory, a division of Container Corporation of America, the world’s largest paperboard packaging company. During this time, he developed logos and brand marks for many international and national companies. After 30 years of service at Design and Market Research Laboratory, Marvin retired.

Marvin passed in peace on February 18, 2016, in Elmhurst, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annette and Heiko Steck.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m., on March 26, 2016, at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville.
