Death of Gertie Siefken

Gertie Siefken died at her home in Colfax township last Friday forenoon. Diabetes was the cause of her death. While she was ailing for some time she was in bed only two weeks before the end came. Funeral services conducted by Dr. J. E. Drake were held at the home Monday and later at the Drake church and there was a very large attendance of friends of the family.

Gertie Siefken was the daughter of John Siefken. She was born in Colfax township and lived here all of her life. Had she lived until next April she would have been eighteen years old. She was a very splendid girl who since the death of her mother, six years ago, filled to quite an extent the mother's place in the home. Her death just as she was arriving at womanhood came as a shock to the family and it has brought sincere grief to the family's large circle of friends.

Gertie Siefken Passes Away

The death of Gertie Siefken, eldest daughter of John Siefken, was a sad blow to the family and friends. She had taken the place of her mother to her brothers and sisters since the death of her mother about five years ago, and proven herself a most helpful, faithful sister and daughter.

She was only 17 years and six months old at the time of her death, which occurred last Friday, Sept. 28.

The funeral was held at the Drake church on Tuesday, Oct. 2, under the charge of Rev. John A. Drake. The attendance was very large, and the pall bearers were six of her girl friends. They were: Fannie Andressen, Annie Franken, Minnie Meyer, Lena Smit, Mattie Meester and Reka Franken.

The family has the deep sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
