Services Held For Mrs. Rena Maas Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Rena Maas was held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Gene Straatmeyer was officiating clergyman. Music was given by Alvin Smit and James Kruse who sang two duet numbers. Mrs. Raymond Hinders was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Arnold Arends and Mrs. Josephine Finke.

Pall bearers were Alvin Smit, T. J. Heronimus, Billy Molendorp, Ronald Maas, Mervin Maas, and Dean Diamond.

Interment was made in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mrs. Maas passed away around 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. She reached the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 1 day.

She was born on June 10, 1881 on a farm in Colfax Township, Grundy County, southeast of Wellsburg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Meyer (nee Hilke Knock). She attended the rural school in the area. On May 2, 1900 she was united in marriage to John Maas. Following their marriage they lived in Wellsburg for several years after which they moved to a farm in Colfax Township. This union was blessed with 1 son and 4 daughters. Mr. Maas passed away on January 1, 1943.

She had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Janet Rademaker since 1946. She was a long time member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, her husband, 2 daughters: (Florence) Mrs. Henry Smit; (Elizabeth) Mrs. Jerry Molendorp; a son in infancy; 1 grandson, Harold Dean Heronimus; 1 grandson in infancy, Dean Heronimus; 1 sister, Mrs. Lizzie Kruse; and her son-in-law, Joe Rademaker.

Those left to mourn her passing are: daughters: (Helen) Mrs. Tom Heronimus of Holland, Mrs. Janet Rademaker of Wellsburg; 1 son, Johnnie Maas of Cedar Falls; 3 sisters: Mrs. Gretta Jaspers of Wellsburg; Mrs. Tena Schulta of Grundy Center; Mrs. Minnie Dirks of Grundy Center; 3 brothers: Peter J. Meyer of Grundy Center; Eilert J. Meyer of Grundy Center; Harm J. Meyer of Aplington; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
