Obituary

Mikel Joseph Shearn was born in Dublin, Ireland, being a son of Thomas and Mary Shearn. He passed away August 15, 1917, after an illness of about three years from pernicious anemia. About forty years ago Mr. Shearn came to the United States, settling in New Jersey, where he remained for about one year, when he came to Iowa and worked in Grundy and Butler counties for a few years. He has been a resident of Grant township for the past 35 years where he has farmed.

On January 25, 1880 he was united in marriage to Margaret Twigg at New Hartford, Iowa. To this union three children were born: William, who died about eight years ago; Mrs. James Saul, living north of Reinbeck; and Charles, who lives at home. Besides these two children is left the widow to mourn the loss of the kind husband and father.

Mr. Shearn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Grant township, and the funeral services were held there last Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Father Norris, of Grundy Center, and interment was made in Grant cemetery.
