Former Grant Twp. Farmer Dies From Stroke in Waterloo

Patrick J. Stevens, long time resident of Grant township, died Sunday night, May 27, about 11:30 following a paralytic stroke suffered Friday, from the effects of which he never regained consciousness. Death came to him in a Waterloo hospital where he was taken when the stroke affected him. Mr. Stevens had been living in Waterloo in recent years.

Patrick Stevens was born in Freeport, Illinois, coming to Grundy county with his parents when he was six years old. He grew up in Grant township and farmed there until a few years ago when he moved to Waterloo. He was married in Grant about thirty-five years ago, his wife preceding him in death by two years.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Landsman, and a son, J. W. Stevens, both of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. John McAvoy, Elma, Iowa, Mrs. Mary McCarthy, Elma, Iowa, and Mrs. Rose Bagley, of Aredale, Iowa, and a brother, Charles Stevens, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. John's Catholic church in Waterloo, the mass being said by Rev. Fr. N. J. Lentz, pastor. Burial was in the Grant Center Catholic cemetery.
