Bert Hillygus Dies In Cedar Rapids

Bert Hillygus who spent the greater share of his life in Grundy county, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital Friday where he had been a patient for 18 days during which time he submitted to surgery. The body was brought to the Engelkes Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Services were at the funeral home at two o'clock Monday afternoon. Burial was in the Colfax church cemetery. Rev. Bayse conducted the services.

Mr. Hillygus was 81 years old on August 7 of this year. He was born at Villisca, Iowa, Aug. 7th, 1874. He and Gertie Poppenga were married in Grundy county. They farmed near Holland until 1933. Mr. Hillygus' first wife died Nov. 20th, 1946. In 1952 Mr. Hillygus moved to Cedar Rapids where he married Amanda Neselby.

Surviving are the widow, four sons, Lee, Waterloo, Robert, Marshalltown, Allen, Conrad; and Glenn from Danville, Ill. There are two daughters, Mrs. John Peters, Dike, and Mrs. Wendell Byrnes, Grundy Center. There are 25 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
