Lucas Kruse Dies Without Warning Monday Morning

Lucas Kruse died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kruse, two miles north of Holland about four o'clock Monday morning. Apoplexy was the immediate cause of his death.

Mr. Kruse had been afflicted with high blood pressure during the past two years and for a number of days preceding his death he had been confined to the house. His wife was up with him at two o'clock Monday morning. After returning to bed he said he was feeling fine and that he believed he could go to sleep. Two hours later his wife was awakened when she heard him gasping for breath. He died a few moments later.

Mr. Kruse was born on a Colfax township farm -- years ago and grew up there.

Nine years ago he and Miss Ella Heronimus were married. They lived for a time at Parkersburg and Aplington where he was employed as a salesman of farm machinery. For a number of years they resided in Grundy Center where he operated an oil truck. The past year he was employed as salesman for the O'Kones implement firm at Wellsburg.

Surviving are the wife and two sons, one eight and one four years old, his father and mother, and one brother, Clarence.

Funeral services will be held at the home early in the afternoon and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church with the local pastor, Rev. George Swalve, in charge. Rev. J. E. Drake will assist at the service. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.

The Obituary Of Mr. Lucas Calvin Kruse

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 17, 1938, at the Drake church, for Lucas C. Kruse, who passed away at his home in Colfax Township on the Monday previous. The Rev. Mr. Swalve conducted the services, burial being made in the Drake church cemetery.

Casket bearers were friends of the deceased: Harold Schoon, Alfred Brower, George Heronimus, Harm Abels, Paul Heronimus and John Greaves.

Lucas Calvin Kruse, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kruse, was born at Holland, Iowa, on July 26, 1906 and most of his life was spent near this community. Mr. Kruse passed away at the home of his parents on Monday, March 14, 1938 at 4:30 a.m. He attained the age of 31 years, 7 months and 18 days.

On March 20, 1929, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Heronimus. To this union two children were born.

Mr. Kruse leaves to mourn his early departure his bereaved wife, Ella; two small sons, James 7 and Norman 3; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Kruse; and one brother Clarence. Also his aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Meyer of Wellsburg, Iowa and a large number of relatives and friends.

On August 31, 1930 he openly confessed Christ and joined the fellowship of this church.

Mr. Kruse enjoyed good health until about two years ago when he became afflicted with high blood pressure. After returning from the hospital at Iowa City he told his mother that "If I must go, I am ready." He never complained during his illness. He was confined to his bed for several days before his death and the announcement of his sudden death was received with deep regret by his many friends.

No words can ever fill
Your need for one so dear,
But may some comfort touch your heart
In sympathy sincere;
May kindly hands help smooth the way
And ease the sad unrest;
May love lift clouds and help you see
God's will is always best.
