Rites Held For John Finke

John Finke, 64, who resided at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center since January '73, died there Aug. 15. Services were held in the American Lutheran church Saturday afternoon, Aug. 17, at 1:30 with Rev. Kermit Rye officiating.

Mrs. Dale Fink was organist and accompanied Kenn Draper who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "There Will Be Peace In The Valley." Mrs. Vernon Klosterboer and Mrs. Gary Bienfang were the floral attendants. Pallbearers were John Bergman, Ronald Itzen, Kenneth Kiewiet, Darwin Finke, Bill Harken and Paul Meyer. Burial was in the Holland cemetery.

John was born Aug. 14, 1910 at Melvin, Iowa, the son of Fred and Anna K. Lingelbach Finke. The family lived on a farm west of Holland until 1944 when they moved to Grundy Center. He was united in marriage to Berdene Itzen on Sept. 2, 1931.

He is survived by his wife, Berdene; three sons and one daughter, Delbert of Coralville, Floyd of Kerrville, Texas, Jerome in the Philippines and Mrs. John (Mardell) Huck Jr. of Waterloo; also 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Fred of Grundy Center and Rueben of Cedar Falls; two step-brothers, Jacob Wilts of Waterloo and Wallace Wilts, Holland; and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Conklin and Mrs. Leona Canfield of Bettendorf and Mrs. Edna Buchan of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one brother.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
