Henry Itzen Services Held

Henry P. Itzen of Holland passed away at 11:45 p.m. Monday, October 13, at his home in Holland. He attained the age of 81 years, two months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center on Thursday, October 16, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiated.

The Colfax Center Quartet sang "How Great Thou Art" and "One Day At A Time." They were accompanied by Mrs. Carolyn Stahl. Mrs. Raymond Hinders played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Curtis Tjepkes, Steve Steinmeyer, Shawn Samo, Terry DeBoer, Bryon Hook and Delwyn Tjepkes.

Ushers were Art Flater, Henry Bergman and Vernon Reinicke. Mrs. Art Flater and Mrs. Vernon Reinicke were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Holland Cemetery, Holland.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Itzen was born July 20, 1905, in Palermo township, Grundy county, the son of William Johannes and Christena Walbrechta Smit Itzen. He grew up and attended rural school in Palermo township.

On June 21, 1933, he was united in marriage to Reka Pothast at Grove Hill near Readlyn by the Rev. E. J. Voss. After their marriage they farmed in Palermo township for 43 years, moving to Holland on September 20, 1976.

He was a long-time member of the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Reka, of Holland; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Minetta) Tjepkes and Mrs. Dennis (Norma) Hook, both of RR1, Holland; one sister, Mrs. Fannie Voss of Grundy Center; one brother, Harm W. Itzen of Holland; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
