Henry Werkman Services Held

Henry Werkman, 87, of Holland, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 25, 1999, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 1, at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland. Burial followed in the Holland Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Henry was born August 3, 1911, in Holland the son of Dick and Winnie (Smit) Werkman, Sr. On November 9, 1933, he was united in marriage to Anna Schmidt at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. To this union were born six daughters. Henry and Anna farmed all their lives retiring in 1979. Henry had also worked for several years at the Grundy County Hospital.

Henry is survived by his wife Anna of Holland; six daughters, Lanette Saathoff and her husband George of Ryan, Marjorie Meester and her husband Curtis of Grundy Center, Wanda Akers and her husband Gordon of Grundy Center, Arlene Haupt and her husband Melvin of Wellsburg, Lois Meester of Grundy Center and Diane Ascher and her husband James of Wellsburg; two brothers, George of Holland and Jake of Dedar Falls; two sisters, Grace VanDeest of Grundy Center and Winnie Werkman of Winston-Salem, NC; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by five brothers, Onno, Harm, Dick Jr., and two in infancy; a sister, Henrietta Harms; and a son-in-law, Sylvian Meester.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
