Jake B. Miller, Age 91, Dies

Jake B. Miller of Holland passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, at the Acute Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the Holland Christian Reformed Church, Holland, on Tuesday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. I. W. Meuzelaar officiated.

Mrs. Tena Schoon and Mrs. Lori Schoolman sang "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Lord, I'm Coming Home." They were accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Hinders, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Edwin Brower, Harry Meyer, Don Ennenga, K. C. Kruger, Eldon Klaassen and Edward Schoolman.

The ushers were Virgil Getting and Jasper Westerman. Mrs. Edwin Brower and Mrs. Richard Neessen were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Holland Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Miller was born on May 5, 1896, on his parents' farm in Beaver township, Grundy county, the son of Ben and Jessie Solma Miller. He attained the age of 91 years and five days.

He grew up on the Miller family farm in Beaver township and attended country school. He served in the U.S. Army during WWI.

On March 2, 1921, he was united in marriage to Hattie Schipper on a farm near Holland by Rev. Siemsen. After their marriage, they farmed the family farm near Fern until May 5, 1946, when they moved and made their home in Holland.

He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church and later joined the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ben J. Miller on February 23, 1982, and by one brother and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Hattie; one daughter, Mrs. Delbert (Ann) Meyer of Holland; one son, John Miller of Hampton; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Irene Miller of rural Holland; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
