John Meester Services Held

John K. Meester passed away at 5:20 a.m. Sunday, February 19 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at the Holland Christian Reformed Church, Holland, on Wednesday, February 22 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor William VanHal officiated.

Musical interludes of "Does Jesus Care?" and "How Great Thou Art" were rendered by Mrs. William VanHal, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Kenneth Renken, Alvin Meester, Robert Meester, Lesley Meester, Luverne Meester and Leon Meester.

Ushers were Edwin Brower and Jack Westerman. Mrs. Jack Westerman and Mrs. Virgil Getting were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Holland Cemetery, Holland. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Meester was born December 6, 1913, in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy County, the son of Thomas K. and Anna Peters Meester. He attained the age of 70 years, two months and 13 days. He grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Valley township.

He was united in marriage to Esther Heronimus on November 24, 1938 at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church parsonage.

After their marriage he started farming in Colfax and Pleasant Valley townships. He retired from farming in 1979.

He was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Henry K., Herman L., and James C. Meester.

He is survived by his wife, Esther of rural Holland; one brother, Johannes Meester of rural Holland; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Renken of Aplington, Mrs. Sam (Tena) Paterni of rural Eldora and Mrs. Anna Murra of Wellsburg; and by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
