Albert Johnson Died Sunday

Albert Johnson of Holland died at the Long Term Care unit of the Grundy County Memorial hospital at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, February 6. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home at Grundy Center with Rev. Karl Wiersum of the Holland Christian Reformed Church officiating.

LaVern Dieken and Mrs. Henry Siefken sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." They were accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Appel who also played selected prelude and postlude numbers. Mrs. Jake Schoneman and Mrs. Don Palmer took care of the flowers. Pallbearers were Kent Johnson, Donald Johnson, Albert Thorne, LuRay Neessen, Marvin Eilderts, and Darrell Johnson. Burial was in the Holland Christian Reformed Cemetery. Friends and relatives met at the Holland Recreation Center following the committal service for a period of fellowship and refreshments.

Albert was born October 18, 1890 in Grundy Center, Iowa the son of John and Pearl Johnson. On January 29, 1911 he was united in marriage to Marie Witte in Grundy Center. After their marriage they lived in Holland all of their married life. She died November 4, 1963. He had been employed by the railroad for many years, then was a thresher and a corn sheller. Since retirement in 1971 he had continued to work on his acreage in Holland. He was a member of the Holland Community Club.

Mr. Johnson is survived by nieces and nephews from the Holland, Grundy Center and Wellsburg area. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.

He was admitted to the hospital on December 8 and transferred to the L.T. Care on January 3.
