Ben Sonnenberg, 30, Died Saturday In W'loo Hospital
Funeral services for Benjamin H. Sonnenberg, 30, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Holland Christian Reformed Church, followed by burial in the Holland cemetery.
Rev. Jay DeVries was in charge of the service. Pallbearers were George Werkman, Bernard Venenga, Warren Anderson, Royce Fink, Harris Sonnenberg and Paul Bettenga, all cousins of the deceased.
Benjamin died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday in Allen Memorial hospital, Waterloo, where he had been a patient 13 days. Death was attributed to a heart condition.
He had been in failing health for several months. A victim of rheumatic fever when a child, the deceased was a patient in the Waterloo hospital for several weeks last winter and although he was able to return home, he never regained his health.
The entire community was saddened by the death of this young man, father of four children, and close friend of so many.
Obituary
Benjamin Harold Sonnenberg was born September 19, 1930, in Holland, the son of Chris B. and Lena Sonnenberg.He attended grade school at Holland, and was graduated from Grundy Center high school in 1949.
On July 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jean Garrett of Parkersburg. The couple made their home for two years on a farm east of Wellsburg, and for three years on a farm near Aplington.
The past two years he was self-employed as a trucker, and the Sonnenbergs made their home in Holland.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Shirley Jean, Sheila Jane, David Benjamin and Mark Anthony; also his father and step-mother, all of Holland; a sister, Helen Heronimus, Mason City; and a brother, Delbert Sonnenberg, Marshalltown.
Preceding him in death was his mother, on March 12, 1952.
