John Luchtenburg Dies Sunday At Waterloo Hospital

John Luchtenburg Sr., 79, a prominent Pleasant Valley township farmer until his retirement in 1948, died Sunday morning at Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church, with Rev. Gerald Osland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Luchtenburg was born Dec. 2, 1888, in Wedde, The Netherlands, the son of John and Jocoba Luchtenburg.

He came to Grundy county in 1906. On November 3, 1914, he was united in marriage to Tena Walters.

The couple farmed in Pleasant Valley township until 1948, but continued to make their home on a small acreage on the home place near Buck Grove. They moved to Parkersburg in 1965.

He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed church.

Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Jennie, Mrs. Harvey Doescher of Aplington, Grace, Mrs. John Brandt of Parkersburg, and Delores, Mrs. Terry Anderson of Cedar Falls; one son, John Jr., of Parkersburg; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, George of Waverly, Sicko of Grundy Center, and Aalko of Holland, The Netherlands.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, and a sister.
