Mrs. H. VanHauen Dies In Hospital

Mrs. Henry VanHauen of Pleasant Valley township died Friday evening at the Grundy hospital. She had been in failing health during the past year. She was a patient in the Grundy hospital from November 27 of last year up to the time of her death.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home in Parkersburg where funeral arrangements were made. Services were Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home and later at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church, west of Fern. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Rev. Moss conducted the service.

Mrs. VanHauen was a lifetime resident of Grundy county. She was born August 15, 1875, on a Pleasant Valley township farm and she grew up there. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sievert Claassen Geerds. On March 26, 1900, she and Henry VanHauen were married. The first five years of their married life they resided on a farm three miles south of Parkersburg. After that they moved to a farm 4 1/2 miles south of Parkersburg which continued to be their home.

Surviving are the husband; one son, Sievert VanHauen, Parkersburg; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Luppen, Parkersburg. There are eight surviving grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Other surviving members of her family are three half-sisters. They are: Mrs. Richard Pothast, Clarksville; Mrs. Reike Seehusen, Holland; and Mrs. Jennie Kruger, Iowa Falls. Preceding her in death were the parents, one daughter, 5 sisters and one half-sister.
