Mrs. E. B. Engelkes Dies Last Night
Mrs. E. B. Engelkes, who had resided in Fern the past 22 years, died at 7:15 last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Akkerman, west of Fern. She had been in failing health from a cancerous affliction the past three years. She had been at the home of her daughter the past three months.
Funeral services will be held at the Akkerman home at one o'clock Monday and later at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church with Rev. A. Linneman officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mrs. Engelkes was 53 years old. Her maiden name was Bertha Huting. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reent Huting. She was born on a Pleasant Valley township farm July 9, 1893.
On February 7, 1917, she was married to E. B. Engelkes. The couple resided on a farm until 1922 when they moved to Fern where Mr. Engelkes engaged in the mercantile business with the firm of Engelkes & Engelkes.
Surviving are the husband, one daughter, Mrs. John Akkerman, and one son, Bernard, of Colfax township. There are two brothers, Dan Huting of Parkersburg and Arthur Huting of Waterloo. The surviving sisters are Mrs. Effie Pruisner, Parkersburg; Mrs. Ingle Mowrer, Fern, and Mrs. C. F. Doescher, Pleasant Valley township.
