VANHAUEN, Jennie 1918-2011

Jennie Ella VanHauen, age 92, of Grundy Center, Iowa, was born the daughter of Chris and Annie (Stoppelmoor) Kruger at Holland, Iowa, on October 12, 1918. She attended country school near Stout.

On September 16, 1940, Jennie was united in marriage to Jake VanHauen at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church parsonage of rural Holland, Iowa.

After the VanHauen’s marriage, they moved to Wellsburg where Jake worked for area farmers. Later Jake and Jennie farmed in the Parkersburg and Fern areas for nearly 40 years. In 1979 Jake and Jennie retired from farming when they moved to their home in Fern. In October, 2010, Jennie moved to Arlington Place in Grundy Center.

Jennie always took pride and pleasure in attending her grandchildren’s activities, especially sporting events and 4-H and FFA events. She also loved visits from her great-grandchildren and enjoyed watching the birds at her feeder. Jennie was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.

After suffering a broken hip on August 26, 2011, Jennie passed away of natural causes on September 11, 2011, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center.

Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Jake of 68 years; her parents; three brothers, Klaas, Harm, and Chris; and four sisters, Marie Pruin, Berdene Bolhuis, Leona Decknadel, and Anona Knipfel.

Jennie is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Nadene) VanHauen of Grundy Center, Iowa, and Keith (Pam) VanHauen of Holland, Iowa; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Brian and his daughter, Caden VanHauen of Kansas City, Missouri; Valerie (Wade) and their children, Caleb, Emily, and Courtney Wubben of Manson, Iowa; Brent (Heather) and their children, Drew, Trey, and Cruz VanHauen of Pella, Iowa; Clint (Sarah) and their daughter, Lauren VanHauen of Ames, Iowa; and Krista VanHauen of Davenport, Iowa; and two sisters, Gertie (Elmer) Eiklenborg of Dike, Iowa, and Ruth Wendt of Aplington, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland, Iowa with burial at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and will continue 1 hour prior to services at the church.
