1 1/2-Year-Old Is Killed In Farm Mishap

An 18-month-old boy, Duane Huisman, was fatally injured Saturday afternoon under the wheels of a wagon loaded with corn, which accidentally rolled over on him.

The child was the son of Kenneth Huisman of rural Grundy Center and Mrs. Judith Burns.

The mishap occurred on the Melvin Freeseman farm a mile west and a half mile south of Fern. The tot was pronounced dead on arrival at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. He died of massive head injuries.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. Rev. Mark H. Volkers, pastor of the Reformed Church of Stout, officiated. Mrs. Raymond Appel played "Jesus Loves Me" and "Safe In The Arms of Jesus" as organ interludes as well as selected prelude and postlude numbers.

Mr. and Mrs. George Kruger and Mr. and Mrs. John Akkerman were in charge of flowers. Burial was in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church cemetery two miles west of Fern.

The child was born April 4, 1977 at Marshalltown, Iowa.

He is survived by his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin (Judy) Burns of Lot 17 Debra Estates, Marshalltown; his father, Kenneth Huisman of RR2, Grundy Center, one step-brother, Elwain Burns, one step-sister, Judith Diane Burns, at home, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Freeseman of rural Holland, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Huisman, R2, Grundy Center, and his great-grandmothers, Mrs. Tena Freeseman of Parkersburg, Mrs. Bertha Boven of Grundy Center, and Mrs. Anna Horbach of Waterloo.

A memorial fund has been established.
