Funeral Wednesday At Pleasant Valley For Mrs. Pearl VanHauen

Mrs. Pearl Vanhauen, 80, of rural Holland, died Saturday evening at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage suffered the previous Monday at her home.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, preceded by a family prayer service at the Engelkes Funeral Home at Grundy Center. Rev. Gerald Osland officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pearl Groen was born December 23, 1887, in Pleasant Valley township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Groen.

She was married to Harm VanHauen on February 24, 1909, in Pleasant Valley township. The couple farmed in Pleasant Valley township. He passed away in June, 1954. She continued to make her home on the family farm 2 1/2 miles west of Fern.

Survivors include three sons and three daughters: Henry, of Holland; Jennie, Mrs. Dude Syhlman, Grundy Center; Tillie, Mrs. Herman Pruin, Shell Rock; Jake, Holland; Herman, Wellsburg; Gladys, Mrs. George Meyer, Cedar Falls.

Also 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Arend Goldhorn of Parkersburg.
